Happy Birthday to me (and someone special)!
Yes, it really is my birthday today!
And this is how I’ll be celebrating this day: with my new sweet Hawaiian ukulele!
I’ve been wanting to play a ukulele for a little while. What seeded the idea is an article in The Globe and Mail and then again in the Toronto Star examining the instrument’s resurgence in popularity and the resulting weekly meetups in pubs in Toronto for ukulele-wielding folks.
Obviously, the big draw is the ukulele’s simplicity: learning it is as easy as strumming up and down the strings. I’ve already discovered this and I think that it’s going to be hard to make this Hawaiian instrument sound anything but perfect.
When I strum it I have visions of trickling water fountains, swirling ocean waves and green mountains. Ah, Hawaii!
Having spent about 15 minutes with my 21-series Lanikai Ukulele, I can already tell you that I’m doing great at playing Row, Row, Row Your Boat (involving two different chords) and I’m looking forward to ramping up my skills in the coming days so that I can attend my first-ever ukulele meetup at the Dominion on Queen pub in Toronto next Wednesday. YAY!
Today is an extra-special day: my dad is also celebrating his birthday and today he turns 60!
Happy Birthday, Papa!
I love you
xx

You must be mistaken, nobody could be that old. Then again, I remember Elvis in Blue Hawaii…
hahaha… ;)
