Inspired by Necklaces
Yes, yes, it’s true…I’ve been on a little bit of a Polyvore kick these last few weeks. This week I am showing how one can build an outfit based around a fabulous piece of jewelry. Rather than accessorizing once your clothes are pulled together, here I use a gorgeous necklace as inspiration for an outfit. If you have a loud statement necklace, then I think it’s nice to balance it out with a simple outfit. If you have something more delicate, on the other hand, forming an outfit that is a bit rough around the edges would provide contrast in your ensemble. I’ve put together three different looks each built around a beautiful necklace.
Outfit #1:
In this look, I’ve started with a bold black and gold chunky necklace from Kate Spade. I’ve used it to set the colour theme for the rest of the outfit. I’ve kept the look very tailored and polished. Since the necklace is such a graphic piece, I wanted it to be the center of attention so I have added other accessories which are quite minimal in design.

Gold and Bold: Kate Spade Clean Break necklace, $230; long sleeve white tee, $95; Dolce & Gabbana cigarette trousers, $400; Movado watch, $355; Repetto Mary Jane shoes, $310; ring, $71; Victoria Beckham tote, $2440
Option 2:
The starting point for this outfit is the long chain necklace with a simple star charm. To add more weight, another necklace, such as the one with the angel wings, can be added. To contrast the delicate nature of the necklace, I’ve paired torn jeans, a loose striped top, and casual sneakers which makes this a great weekend outfit.

Stars and Stripes: Minor Obsessions gold star necklace, $320; T by Alexander Wang striped tee, $110; Sass & Bide The Ever After boyfriend jean, $275; hoop earrings, $14; Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers, $63; Minor Obsessions wing necklace, $320; Longchamp Roseau tote, $319
Option 3:
This bright pink, orange and black necklace by Jennifer Loiselle inspired a colourful outfit. Although the necklace is already bright, I added a yellow maxi skirt which makes the outfit that much more fun. I kept the remaining pieces uber-neutral. If you’re not afraid of colour whatsoever, then I’d suggest adding stack of bright bangles or trading the tan hobo purse for maybe something orange.

Bright: Jennifer Loiselle The Clemence necklace, $140; Splendid tee, $66; 10 Crosby by Derek Lam yellow maxi skirt, $475; Gorjana Chloe gold stud earrings, $35; Maison Martin Margiela Line 22 sandal, $365; Mulberry Bayswater bracelet, $315; Merci Marie Maribelle beige hobo bag, $380
