Wow! What a day to remember!

President Barack Obama and the new First Lady, Michelle Obama, were by far the most dashing couple of the evening at the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball 2009 in Washington.

“First of all, how good-looking is my wife?”

Well, Mr. President, we agree with you that she is stunning!

It seems everyone loves the First Lady’s gown by little-known 26 year-old Taiwanese designer Jason Wu.

Michelle Obama’s continued support of relatively unknown designers and her fashionable taste for accessorizing have gained her tremendous public and press approval. While this dreamy Jason Wu gown may not be a traditional choice for a First Lady, Michelle Obama is known for choosing modern fashions over safe stern suits.

Not everyone embraces this Jason Wu chiffon creation- it might remind some of us of those Cottonelle designer competition entries (pictured below.)

Yet this Jason Wu dress is a welcomed risk in an office of straight-laced attire. “She is not Jackie O,” as one disappointed reader of this blog pointed out this week; agreed, but we’ve already had a Jackie O, and in 2009 we need a Michelle Obama. And for all your risk-taking, your accessorizing, and your colourful palette, we applaud you Michelle!

There was no shortage of glamour from the memorable array of performers at the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball 2009. Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Hayden Patteniere, Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, Sting, Stevie Wonder, and more. Here are some images from last night’s inaugural soiree followed by a video of Beyonce’s moving rendition of “At Last”, the first song to which the President and First Lady danced, and Mariah Carey’s heartfelt “Hero”:

I do like Michelle’s dress but it just reminds me of cotton balls :P

But my favorite of the night was Alicia Keys.

Yes Alicia did surprise me with that modern look. Who knew?

Mariah’s performance was such a disaster, pff. Other than that, what a magical night! Michelle looked like a real life Cinderella <3

I have to agree with you on that one. Mariah sounded like she lost her voice (or had just smoked a pack of cigarettes). Hopefully it’s only a case of temporary #1.

does anyone know anything about alicia keys’ earrings?

  6. January 29, 2009 3:30 pm

I searched and searched- it appears that Alicia Keys wore those earrings on that occasion alone. I didn’t find any info about the nature of the earrings, but I’m guessing that they’re diamond pavé drop balls.

Does anybody know anything about her lovelies?
