FIM VIDEO: LG Fashion Week Day 2

Fall/Winter 09 Collections by Ula Zukowska, Travis Taddeo, Zoran Dobric, Joeffer Caoc, Lundstrom, Bustle.

LG Fashion Week- The Runway Report
Yesterday was an exciting day at LG Fashion Week with exciting runway shows and a fun finale featuring high-profile Canadian women modeling red dresses for The Heart Truth show.

Ula Zukowska

My day started with Ula Zukowska’s Fall/winter collection. She showed a mostly copper and tan collection that stays true to her architectural background. Shapes were generally angular, the makeup was light and nude-toned, and the hair crimped and puffed high at the back.

Travis Taddeo

Next came the much-anticipated collection by Montreal designer Travis Taddeo. This young designer graduated just two years ago and is now showing at LG Fashion Week his youthful take on urban street wear. The collection shows men’s and women’s wear in relaxed and sexy cottons. The clothes are wearable in clean pure colours- stark white denims and bright royal blues, and shown paired with over-sized glossy high-tops. I interviewed Taddeo backstage after the show and he described his client as twenty- and thirty-somethings who enjoy going out and wearing fun clothes that are different.

Zoran Dobric

Zoran Dobric’s collection came down the runway as scheduled and showed his signature interest in prints with a collection that included cute jackets, printed tops and dresses, and lots of skin-tight leather pants. The best part of his collection were the shiny black knee-high liquid tights cut to look like stirrups and worn with chunky-strapped platforms. So sexy; I must find out where to get a pair of those.

Joeffer Caoc

The crowd intensified for the later shows and it was a full house for Joeffer Caoc’s 6pm show. This well-respected designer did not disappoint with beautifully-crafted garments. Pretty bows in black velvet tied at the back of the coats and puffy shoulders added femininity and softness to the shapes.

Lundstrom FW09

Lundstrom re-launched its label with a lovely women’s wear collection that reflects the spirit of the brand and positions it firmly in the fashion scene. Signature coats were glamourous: trimmed with fur or jeweled on the back or cinched at the waist- all worn with musketeer leather boots. The hair was kept long and soft, naturally wavy and topped with fur headbands. A lovely show for women who want to look elegant while keeping warm during winter- especially if they’re wearing the stunning lace dress (above).

Another popular show is the collaborative collection by Shawn Hewson and Ruth Promislow under the label Bustle. The show focuses on sporty men’s wear and this collection was a lovely play with colour. Most memorable are the cozy sweaters, splashy accessory bags, and teal green leather jacket. Easily one of the few shows where the model could walk off the runway and look sexy and relaxed for the office or the after-party.

The Heart Truth

This unique collection brought together Canadian designers each designing one red dress for a well-known Canadian woman to model in support of heart disease awareness. On the runway came model/actress Monika Schnarre in a glorious gown by Mark Belford, Entertainment Tonight Canada reporter Rosey Edeh wearing Greta Constantine, television personality Monika Deol strutted Wayne Clark’s creation, singer Heather Rankin in David Dixon, and many more. I was seated in front-row for this invitation-only show and facing Stephen Harper’s wife and handful of other celebs cheering loudly and clapping to the music as Canada’s “celebrity models” strutted their stuff. It was the most fun this week on the runway by far; the models clearly enjoyed their fashion appearance and they worked those gowns and gathered applause. A perfect ending to a high-fashion day!

Great Day 2 video! I’m liking the fashions of LG Fashion Week so far. Lots of black and white — you know how I love that! And I spotted a glimpse of desert boots at Bustle. Awesome! P.S. I also enjoyed the ‘Monsieur D’ song.

Hey there ..I love your blog and wish I could attend Fashion week :( I was wondering how do I become a volunteer for the next one? Was there an application online or whatnot? Thanks! :)

Hi Rachel! Thanks for reading FIM! So happy to hear that you enjoy the blog!

You can volunteer with the FDCC by sending them an application via email. The link to the volunteer page is no longer on the site ( but it will likely be up again in the coming months for the next Fashion Week.

I’ve had a great time volunteering- saw all the shows! How cool is that?
