Fall Fashion Preview: Club Monaco

August 17, 2009
Club Monaco offers a few fun dresses in which to salute the arrival of autumn.

Club Monaco remakes the LBD- perfect for late summer/early autumn.

When it comes to basics, few do it better than Club Monaco.

The new fall collection is no exception. Staying within a neutral colour palette accented by a few colour punches, the Club Monaco style formula maximizes the interchangeability of pieces while playing it safe with classic shapes. If you don’t want to think too hard about how to look stylish, then I’d say rebuild your wardrobe the Club Monaco way.

This fall’s collection takes a few fun risks. The cut is preppy, chic, modern, and relies on patterned fabric and a dollop of mustard to liven up the office wear. The sizzle comes in a few interesting touches: my faves are the daring brass metal-hued statement trench and the long slim blazer. It’s easy to fall in love at Club Monaco this coming season: the mood is romantic and the shapes flatter.

Ruffles

On blouses, cardis, skirts, tanks- ruffles play with romance and structure.

Ruffles, a soft blazer, and layered skirt make for a Chanel-esque outfit that serious at the office but flirty for cocktail hour.

The Wide Belt

We’ve seen skinny belts all over the place and some medium-width belts done over dresses for the past season. This fall Club Monaco uses the extra-wide variety to add shine and definition to an otherwise draped and gathered look.

Purple asymetrical blouse and tulip skirt make a fun outfit.

Colour trend: purple. Gathered and cinched, the tulip skirt is alive and well again this season.

The Long Blazer
Intended to lengthen and looks best on the taller among us, the long basic black blazer looks especially smart with a geometric-patterned pencil skirt.

Office Essential: the long blazer. Perfect with a pencil skirt or slim trousers.

Mid-tone Metallic

Club Monaco is going with muted metallic this fall with fun pieces such as this metallic trench and a crinkly skirt and dress (not shown) in a brass colour. Go for mid-tone metallic this season; the look is more wearable and won’t get confused with holiday-inspired glitz.

The key to wearing metallic is to wear them as the colour punch and stay neutral with your coordinating pieces. Pair gold-hued metallic shades with browns and silver with soft greys.

More Metal

Continuing with the hard/soft play that is Club Monaco’s signature look, the accessories for fall are high-polished metallic beads, gold chain braids, angular stacked bangles, as well as mutli-strands of pearls, beads and black crystals encrusted within rings, hair clips and earrings. Clutches are in soft metallic shades and stay clear of fancy adornment. Colour can be seen on a few simple over-sized jewel-toned necklaces.

The Accent Du Jour

The company went with mustard yellow for this season’s accent colour. Don’t be discouraged that you can’t pull off this colour- in fact, it is as an accessory colour that works for many people when paired with more prominently-featured neutrals, such as in this casual weekend outfit:
