Spring Trend – the collar necklace

January 28, 2010

Encircling and chunky, these will make the spring rounds. Shopping notes below.

We sat up and noticed the collar necklace for spring. It’s unavoidable: large, chunky, and more than a statement, this is one circle necklace that steps up the game of previous seasons’ ornamentation pieces.

With the abundance of colours and mixed materials coming into the weave, dangle, layers and knots, we thought we might include a little show-and-tell as to how to wear these dramatic pieces. Whether you choose a more neutral metal piece or one fit for an Egyptian queen there are many ways to wear the collar necklace as an office wear or party accessory. Don’t worry about going over-board; this trend is all about the more the merrier and you can easily remix last season’s statement multi-stranded necklaces with this spring’s collar necklace (see below).

Here’s the demo, courtesy of Michelle Obama’s fave one-stop shop: J. Crew.

‘Spring Merry-Go-Round’ collar necklaces: Clockwise from right, Kenneth Jay Lane gunmetal and silver leaf drop necklace, $137.50 at Piperlime; Springtime cruise resin and chain necklace, $59.50 at Banana Republic; mixed metals Centurion necklace, $69.50 at Banana Republic; wood and mixed materials “Ann-Sofie Johansson’s favourites” fringed necklace at H&M; Tuleste Market jade and metal chain and necklace, $170 at Piperlime; silver chain braided necklace from “Ann-Sofie Johansson’s favourites” at H&M; silver beaded leather Sequin necklace, $65 at Piperlime.

Do you have to be 80 lbs soaking wet to wear this trend?

Where did they find this model…

      Yeah she is awfully slim..

Actually this trend can be worn by all body shapes- I think it’s a matter of working it into your wardrobe and your flattering looks. I like the idea of wearing the collar necklace with a button-down dress shirt open at the neck and revealing just part of the necklace, keeping the V-shaped neckline of the shirt but adding the collar necklace underneath. That would suit many women for sure.

Kate Spade (which is cheeky classic style) does a few of them too, I especially like the Galaxy Swirl Glitz Ball necklace. The bright yellow is a zinger!
