Fall 2010 Hair Trends

July 20, 2010

Fall 2010 or 1962? Prada takes inspiration from the past for this fall's collection with a French roll and braided headbands.

Hair and shoes: two of the most important considerations when putting together a look.

We know because we’re always fussing over our hair and our shoes. It’s a historical fact, is it not?

Today we start with a hair parade looking at the top three styling trends for fall. Might we add that we’re most delighted with this fall’s side part and natural looking locks- a look that pretty much every gal can work into her ‘do book.

Tomorrow it’s all about what’s happening on the floor- footwear from the runways of New York, Milan, Paris and London.

‘Do Trends for Fall

Trend #1: Clean and precise

Although this tidy style was by far under-represented on the runway, we feel that it’s worth featuring since it definitely played a part in the designer’s vision of a structured fall line. Fall’s sharp edges and layers of texture and subtle colour may require a little polish up top. If you’re going to let the angles do the talking, then simplicity is best.

Trend #2: Messy and natural

Running out the door late for your appointment never looked so 2010. ‘Tis the season of fly-aways and bad hair, so if you can put up with a little Sunday morning-rolling-out-of-bed head, this fall will be your trend haven. Layers are long and tucking behind the ears is allowed.

N.B.: Deceptively easy-going, messy and natural-looking hair can actually be quite the challenge to execute. Yes, it might look fine and dandy when you do roll out of bed, but keeping that alive for 8-10 hours will require some careful planning and a few spritzes of product now and again. As we all know, there’s a fine line between messy/sexy and messy/dumpy.

Trend #3: Coiffed and Going Out

Obviously bed head can only take you so far, and by that we hope that by 7pm we’ll all have had a moment to load up on spray and get a little back-combing action going or a few twirls with the curling iron. For those mega-pressed for time, a quick chignon and a top hat will do just fine.
