Let the games begin

February 10, 2011

Ignite Toronto welcomes me (!) and other fine thinkers for the February 10, 2011 event.

Tonight I’m lighting up the stage with a presentation at Ignite Toronto.

Ignite is an event happening world-wide all at the same time with each city hosting its own chapter. Ignite welcomes speakers from all backgrounds and passions to give a quick presentation on the topic of their choice.

The Toronto chapter will be featuring 12 speakers tonight, each assigned the Ignite recipe: 5 minutes to present 20 slides automatically advancing every 15 seconds. It’s a race to ignite the crowd!

My presentation is titled Shop Till You Drop: Fashion in rural Canada and the power of the department store.

Here’s what it’s all about:

“We’re looking at Canadians’ shopping habits from a brief historical overview to where we are today in large urban centres and remote settings: whether internet shopping has taken over the store outpost in small communities, and how fashion trends are/aren’t adopted widely in Canada because of the sheer vastness of our nation and/or regional differences. I’d also like to tie in with American retailer Target landing on the Canuck scene and how this shapes our retail and economic landscape.”

Tickets to the event are already sold out, so if you don’t already have one, you’ll have to wait to see my pres on video. I’ll be featuring it here soon.

Wish me luck!
