Sac du jour

September 8, 2011

Alexander Wang's Kristen Tote is a study in straps and buckles. Like? $945 at Far Fetch

Today’s Sac is a strappy affair, careful not to tie yourself in a knot over this one.

With more buckles and strips of leather than the dog park after 6, it’s an accessory’s take on Suprematism spiced with Wassily Kandisky‘s Bauhaus work:

Suprematist artist Kazimir Malevich's 1916 painting, "Sumprematist Composition" at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Wouldn't you say that Alexander Wang took a little of this and added a little of that: (below)

Wassily Kandinsky's 1923 "Composition 8" painting is considered the masterpiece of his Bauhaus work and is currently at the Guggenheim Museum

We really can’t know what exactly inspired Alexander Wang to wrap an oversized bag with crazy long length of leather but we certainly do identify with the delirium-inducing sensation of buttery soft suede. The smokey tone-on-tone colouring is subtle touch of class on this hip school book bag priced to be a hand-me-down for future sophomores.

Might we tempt you with more decadence in an alternative shape and a foggy east coast hue?

The Kristen collection also comes in Weimaraner grey in this lovely messenger bag shape, the Satchel. $825 at Far Fetch

Love the grey – but I don’t think I’d wear it. I imagine it’s heavy and that’s just not practical for me. By the time I put all my junk in it – it’d be over the airline carry-on baggage limit. Not to mention the issues at security. Love it but I think i’ll leave it.

Yeah, it could be heavy- I hadn’t even thought of that. The grey is nice- I love grey things- truly goes with every colour- even your faves ;).
